”The blackwater family used to rule Castle Blackwater and its adjoining territory, located near Mount Hotenow. While they’ve always been known as fair and just rulers, ever since the notorious eruption of Mount Hotenow in 1451 DR, they have isolated themselves, becoming more and more elusive. Aside from occasional strange tales told by merchants coming from the region, not much is known about the Blackwater family anymore.”

Castle Blackwater has always been inhabited by its current ruler and their family. Before the eruption of Mount Hotenow, Arkus Blackwater was head of the family, and respected throughout the land. After the eruption, Asim Blackwater replaced his father, who was presumed to have died in the incident. He maintained his position until his death in 1471 DR, living in the castle with his son, Arthur, and his daughter, Myelle. Not much is known about his late wife, Maeve Blackwater.
DM Note
Before the events of Mount Hotenow, Arkus Blackwater had discovered and been researching the existence of Hermaeus Mora, a Great Old One. He became convinced that he had been chosen by Mora, and slowly slipped into madness. Once the eruption of the volcano shifted the Blackstones to the surface, he viewed them as a gift from Hermaeus Mora, and became obsessed with using them to summon his ‘master’. Hermaeus Mora was, in fact, not involved in any way with the Blackwater Family’s fall from grace, yet he was amused by their doings and decided to observe them.
